Job Description
This is a high school teaching position in Web Design, whichis a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Web Design offers a series of prescribedcourses for grades 10-12 that provides students with the knowledge and skillsnecessary to succeed in the Information Technology industry. The Web Design program will deliverindustry-based instruction that develops student competencies leading topostsecondary education and employment. Students explore the essentials of informationtechnology with varied emphases in networking, database development cloudmanagement, web development, and programming. Students may be eligible to obtain certifications, internships and dualcollege credit through participation Game Programming.
CTE teachers areresponsible to: 1. Provide rigorous and relevantinstruction on pre-approved hands-on curriculum in the content area and generalwork-place readiness.
2. Integrate soft-skill instruction intocompetency-based content area activities.
3. Support students in industry relevantcompetitions, industry exploration activities, professional organizations andpostsecondary initiatives.
4. Show evidence of project-based learning(e.g., competitions, capstone events, etc.)
5. Collaborate with core content teacherson common course planning, integration and alignment.
6. Collaborate with school-based staff(college and career coach, counselor, etc.) and CTE Partnership DevelopmentLiaisons and Program Coordinators to identify and recommend work-readystudents.
7. Attend all relevant professionaldevelopment set by the Department of College and Career Preparation in order toprovide the best educational experience possible for students. Examplesinclude:
a. Quarterly industry-focused PD sessions.
b. Industry advisory council meetings.
c. Instructional PD sessions.
d. Summer Institute sessions.
e. New teacher supports (e.g., New TeacherCenter PD, CTE teacher coaching)
8. Maintain and update industrycertifications as required by Illinois State Board of Education and ChicagoPublic Schools.
9. Attend CPS CTE professional development sessionsif working under an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Educator Licensewith Stipulations/Career and Technical Education (ELS/CTE) or a newly hiredteacher.
QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED(non-negotiable): •Eligible to receive an ISBE Professional Education License (PEL) inBusiness, Marketing, and Computer Education/ComputerProgramming with coursework in Computer Programming (certificate must be inplace prior to teaching),
or •Eligible to receive anISBE Educator License with Stipulations (ELS(CTE)) in Website Development orComputer Programming (CPS/CTE will assist with securingthe certificate and certificate must be in place prior toteaching)
•Minimum Associate'sDegree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or Related Field from anaccredited college and university
•Minimum 4,000 hours (2 years full-time)of paid industry experience from the past 5 years
•MOS Certification or must be obtained within12 months from date of hire.
•Photoshop Certification or must beobtained within 12 months from date of hire.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: •This position requires a Chicagoresidency within six months of accepting the position.
PREFERRED: •College Degree consistent with offeringdual credit for postsecondary coursework to high school students
•Additional experience working inInformation Technology in at least one or more of the following fields:
o Software development or engineering,
o Networking
o Database development
o Web development
•Computer literacy and excellentknowledge of Microsoft Office Suites 2007 or higher and knowledge ofcompetitive equivalents.
•Experience or training in various webdevelopment tools
•Prior teaching experience, specificallyproject-based learning, student-centered approach
•Excellent planning, organization,written and verbal communication skills
•High-level problem solving skills
•Team and detail oriented Chicago Public Schools
