The West Fargo Park District is looking for energetic and knowledgeable individuals to join our team as Basketball for Beginners Coaches. If you have a passion for basketball and enjoy working with children, this is a wonderful opportunity to help young players develop their skills in a fun, supportive, and educational environment.
Position Overview
As a Basketball for Beginners Coach, you will lead basketball drills and activities for youth participants ages 4-7, focusing on teaching the basic skills of the game. Your role will be to create a positive and encouraging environment that fosters skill development, teamwork, and a love for the sport of basketball.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead drills and teach basic basketball skills for children ages 4-7.
• Create age-appropriate activities that promote fun, learning, and skill development.
• Provide individual and group instruction on fundamental basketball techniques.
• Ensure the safety of all participants during drills and activities.
• Foster a positive, encouraging environment that motivates participants to improve.
• Assist in setting up and cleaning up basketball equipment before and after sessions.
• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about participant progress.
• Collaborate with other coaches to ensure smooth program delivery.
Work Schedule
This position requires part-time availability during evenings and weekends, depending on the program schedule.
Program Dates
June 23 rd -26 th : 1:30pm-4:00pm
July 14 th -17 th : 1:30pm-4:00pm
August 4 th -7 th : 1:30pm-4:00pm
Qualifications
• Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years old.
• Skills: Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to teach and motivate children.
• Experience: Previous experience in coaching or working with youth is preferred.
• Knowledge: Solid understanding of basketball fundamentals and the ability to teach them to young players.
